“Every day I learn about how to live life from my patients.  This population doesn’t complain much and are trying to do best they can. They have unique needs to be addressed, and I feel more passionate everyday about helping them live the way they envision their best quality of life.”

“The optimal care of older adults with diabetes requires the perspectives of both endocrinologists with their expertise in diabetes and geriatricians with their expertise in the care of multimorbid older adults.  I’m thrilled to help lead an organization melding the endocrine and geriatrics perspectives to improve the care of older adults with diabetes.”

“I am very excited to be part of an international network of clinicians and researchers who share a vision of addressing unanswered questions for a patient population that has long been neglected despite being the majority of those living with diabetes.”

Dr. Alan Sinclair, MD FRCP (Lond)

Chair of Publications and Resources

“The modern management of an older person with diabetes will ways require the clinician to have a thorough understanding of their special needs, often complex medical profile, how aging has affected their cognitive and physical health, and the dangers of pharmacotherapy. Without this understanding and knowledge and skills in assessment, their care will be suboptimal. With the advent of exciting advances in technology and precision medicine, the educational and scientific work of the IGDS can only lead to enhancing this care.”

“Aging with diabetes is a challenge. My role as a physician providing care to  older people with diabetes is to help them age in a healthy way.  It starts by assessing their  cognitive & physical health agility then providing appropriate glucose, blood pressure and lipid targets and finally  implementing evidence interventions that have been shown to promote healthy aging in this population. “
